The Wheat is starting to pollinate.
Here is some wheat. More specifically, the top part with all the seeds that is commonly called the head. See those little light colored things on them? No? Here's a closer look:
Now for most of you, anthers are what you get when you ask quethtions, but to a botanist an anther is a thing that the pollen comes in. It's all part of a very complicated process that is part of the miracle of reproduction in plants. This is little consolation for those of you who are now all snotty. Please know though, that your suffering is for the greater good. (the greater good) Perhaps you'd feel better if you'd go purchase some of your favorite wheat based foods. Munching on some cake or cookies (or both!) while thinking of the process the wheat took to get so delicious could very well cure what ails you.
