Rollaharrow.

After a field is plowed the dirt is in large clumps that are held together by moisture and roots. It needs to be broken down into fine loose soil. There are many ways to do this but today we're only talking about one. It's made by our neighbors over at the Parma Company and it's called a Rollaharrow.

The front row rolls along the ground crushing any clods or clumps. The middle is full of what are called "S-tines." They're springy and they will lift and pull apart anything that is stuck down. Then there's the wheels, they lift up and down and are mostly for transportation. And the final row is a roller bar. It looks like a long cage. It rolls along the ground and evens the dirt into a nice smooth surface.

As with nearly all implements you pull it down one way, lift it off the ground, and then turn and do it all again.

The farmer might do this a couple of times over the entire field to make sure that it's done well. This leaves the best possible surface for planting. Not particularly exciting work but very, very necessary.
